Hi, I’m Whitney, the heart and hands behind this page!

As a human rights lawyer and diplomat wife, I move to a new country every few years.  I’ve lived in Cambodia, Nigeria, and now Greece.

I do my best to share the highs and lows of living and working abroad because while it may seem exciting, it has many real challenges.  Over the years, I learned many of you are navigating the same issues.

I’m also a travel photographer and storyteller.

I started travel writing as a way to connect with others abroad and update friends and family about where I was in the world.  This led to sharing about the culture and customs I was learning about as well as the miraculous hidden travel gems I uncovered.

Traveling for me is more than relaxing in a desirable location.  It’s about connecting with locals, participating in their customs and traditions, and maybe even learning some of their language.  I’ve found that this is the secret to deeper, more meaningful, experiences.

Like the time I asked a Greek family about their Orthodox Easter traditions and they invited me to join their family in the celebration and try souvlaki hot off the spit.  Or when I showed up to a family-owned taverna and found a baby goat prancing around the restaurant.  Seeing my excitement, the owner insisted I bottle feed it by hand.  Soon, her son had captured a cicada for me to hold and, while laughing hysterically, taught me in Greece they are called “TZITZIKI” which is dangerously close to “TZATZIKI.”

I want to help others find these experiences too.  My travel guides will lead the way.

When I’m not traveling the world, you’ll find me at home in Charleston, South Carolina, wandering through cobblestone alleys, photographing the lowcountry marsh, or hunting for shark teeth with my husband, Will, and bernedoodle, Havana.
